Pennells Garden Centre

Founded by Richard Pennell in 1780, Pennells nurseries are among the oldest in the country. Still in the same family, the nursery developed from humble beginnings. By the 1880s clematis species, for which the nursery remains justly famous, first started to appear in quantity in the country's catalogue.

Pennells nursery continues to supply other GCA members and trade, and has developed a deserved reputation as a leading supplier not only of clematis but also of climbers, shrubs, conifers, roses and perennials. It grows over 300,000 clematis for garden centres, making it one of the largest UK growers. It backs up the quality of its plants by a strong emphasis on service, and has recently received an investors in people award.

Both the nursery and its associated garden centre aim to maintain their tradition of excellence of product, with knowledgeable staff, professional service and advice, and a commitment to satisfying customer needs. The garden centre boasts 40,000 square feet of covered and heated shop area, with a wide selection of trees, conifers, shrubs,climbers and herbaceous perennials including herbs, rockery and alpine plants, and a range of garden tools, seeds, bulbs and garden sundries.

Houseplants and conservatory plants are very much in evidence, together with a great variety of bedding plants and garden accessories such as hanging baskets, tubs, urns and containers - whatever you require, for any season you'll probably find it here. The garden centre also features a range of barbecues, and its rattan wicker furniture will enhance any garden or conservatory.

The gift shop is the place to find ceramics, books, candles and other gift ideas. The welcoming and attractive coffee shop serves breakfast, lunches, snacks, cakes. pastries and drinks.
